Although this new version is directed by Alexei Ratmanaski, " Les Flammes de Paris" was first presented by Vassili Vaynonen at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1933. Each of the projects of the Bolshoi Ballet has its very own character. " Les Flammes de Paris" is one of its most interesting and most unusual ballets. As  this ballet does not belong to the classical ballet repertoire or the masterpieces of the Soviet period.

" Les Flammes de Paris" was presented on the eve of the anniversary of the October Revolution. The ballet takes place during the great French Revolution and its main character is the revolutionary people.

NOT THE MESSIAH – He’s A Very Naughty Boy

monty pythonA fabulously entertaining 90 minute comic oratorio by Eric Idle and John Du Prez (creators of Spamalot) inspired by Monty Python's Life Of Brian filmed at its only European performance at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2009 to celebrate 40 years of Monty Python.

This hilarious take on the Messiah features the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Choir, a host of superb soloists in the lead roles including Rosalind Plowright and Eric Idle, with Michael Palin as Mrs Betty Parkinson and special guest appearances from Pythons Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam.  And of course three sheep!

Armida – Gioachino Rossini, 6pm May 1, 2010

This mythical story of a sorceress who enthralls men in her island prison has inspired operatic settings by a multitude of composers, including Gluck, Haydn, and Dvorˇák. Renée Fleming stars in the title role of Rossini's version, opposite no fewer than six tenors. Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman returns to direct this new production of a work she describes as "a buried treasure, a box of jewels."  The fanciful and magical tale, Zimmerman says, "has an epic, enchanted quality and a tremendous visual element."

Conductor: Riccardo Frizza; Production: Mary Zimmerman; Renée Fleming, Lawrence Brownlee, Bruce Ford, José Manuel Zapata, Barry Banks, Kobie van Rensburg
